Abstract

Robotic surgery has revolutionized minimally invasive procedures by offering enhanced precision, reduced patient trauma, and improved recovery times. Despite these advantages, the lack of tactile feedback remains a significant challenge, potentially compromising the surgeon’s ability to gauge tissue properties and apply optimal force during procedures. Haptic feedback systems aim to restore this sensory perception, enabling surgeons to experience simulated tactile sensations that mimic direct tissue contact. This manuscript explores the integration of haptic feedback in robotic surgery, reviewing the current literature, describing methodological approaches to system design and evaluation, presenting experimental results, and discussing the implications for clinical practice. The findings suggest that advanced haptic systems not only enhance the surgeon’s sensory experience but also contribute to improved surgical accuracy and safety. The discussion includes an assessment of system performance, user satisfaction, and potential limitations. Ultimately, the study emphasizes the critical role of haptic feedback in bridging the sensory gap between traditional and robotic surgical techniques, paving the way for more intuitive and effective surgical interventions.
