1. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the presentation of another person's intellectual work, ideas, research findings, words, data, images, or creative contributions as one's own without proper acknowledgment or authorization.

Plagiarism may occur intentionally or unintentionally and includes, but is not limited to, the following forms:

1.1 Direct Plagiarism

  • Reproducing substantial portions of published or unpublished work without acknowledgment.

1.2 Paraphrasing Plagiarism

  • Rewriting another author's ideas, arguments, or findings without proper citation.
  • Making minor modifications to existing text while retaining the original meaning without attribution.

1.3 Data and Research Plagiarism

  • Using another researcher's data, results, datasets, experiments, algorithms, or findings without permission or acknowledgment.
  • Presenting borrowed research outcomes as original work.

1.4 Figure, Table, and Image Plagiarism

  • Reproducing charts, figures, diagrams, photographs, illustrations, tables, or graphical content without appropriate permission or citation.
  • Modifying existing visual materials without acknowledging the original source.

1.5 Self-Plagiarism

  • Republishing previously published work without disclosure.
  • Reusing substantial portions of one's own published material without proper citation.
  • Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals.
  • Republishing identical or substantially similar research findings as new work.

1.6 Source-Based Plagiarism

  • Citing sources that have not been consulted.
  • Providing misleading or inaccurate references.
  • Misrepresenting the origin of ideas or information.

2. Originality Requirements

Authors submitting manuscripts to IJERRI must ensure that:

  • The submitted work is entirely original.
  • The manuscript has not been published previously in any journal, conference proceeding, book, repository, or other publication platform unless clearly disclosed.
  • The manuscript is not under consideration by another journal simultaneously.
  • All sources, references, quotations, and borrowed materials are properly cited.
  • Appropriate permissions have been obtained for copyrighted content where required.
  • Any reuse of previously published content is transparently disclosed to the journal.

Authors must ensure that their research represents a genuine and original scholarly contribution.

3. Plagiarism Screening and Similarity Assessment

To safeguard research integrity, all manuscripts submitted to IJERRI undergo plagiarism screening before entering the peer review process.

The journal may utilize recognized plagiarism detection and similarity assessment tools to evaluate submitted manuscripts.

Editorial staff carefully review similarity reports to distinguish between legitimate academic overlap and unethical copying.

3.1 Acceptable Similarity

Certain forms of similarity may be considered acceptable, including:

  • Standard technical terminology.
  • Common scientific phrases.
  • Properly cited quotations.
  • Reference lists and bibliographies.
  • Methodology descriptions where standard procedures are used.
  • Regulatory or legal language that cannot reasonably be rewritten.

Each manuscript is evaluated individually based on context rather than similarity percentages alone.

3.2 Unacceptable Similarity

The following are considered unacceptable:

  • Unattributed copied text.
  • Extensive overlap with published literature.
  • Duplicate publication.
  • Undisclosed reuse of previously published work.
  • Misappropriation of ideas or data.

Such cases may result in editorial action regardless of similarity scores.
